Applicant and Candidate Privacy Policy

This policy describes how Veson Nautical LLC and its affiliates (collectively, “Veson”) handle and protect personal information provided to Veson in connection with the recruiting and hiring process. This policy explains:

  • What information Veson collects during the hiring and recruitment process and why it is collected;
  • How personal information is used; and
  • How to access and update your personal information.

Note that use of Veson services is governed by agreement and our Privacy Policy.

In order to apply for a job, you consent to the provisions of this Applicant and Candidate Privacy Policy.   This policy does not create any contract or offer of employment.

Types of personal information we collect

This policy covers the information you share with Veson and/or which may be acquired or produced by Veson during the application or hiring process including:

  • Your name, address, email address, telephone number and other contact information;
  • Your CV or resume, cover letter, previous and/or relevant work experience or other experience, education, transcripts, or other information you provide to us as part of an application;
  • Information from interviews (whether in-person or via phone or videoconference) you may have, if any;
  • Details relating to desired employment such as role, title, compensation, benefits, relocation, or other job-related preferences;
  • Any sensitive and/or demographic information obtained during the application or recruitment process such as gender, information about your citizenship and/or nationality, medical or health information and/or your racial or ethnic origin;
  • Contact details of references and/or information received from background checks (where permitted by law), including information provided by third parties;
  • Information relating to any previous applications you may have made to Veson and/or any previous employment history with Veson;
  • Information about your educational and professional background from publicly available sources (e.g., your LinkedIn profile).

How we use information we collect

Your information will be used by Veson for the purposes of carrying out its hiring and recruiting process by:

  • Maintaining a talent pool to assess your skills, qualifications and interests against our career opportunities and contacting you about them;
  • Verifying your information and carrying out reference checks and/or conducting background checks (where permitted by law) if you are offered a job;
  • Communicating with you about the hiring process, your application, or informing you of other potential career opportunities at Veson;
  • Creating and/or submitting reports as required under any local laws and/or regulations, where applicable; and
  • Complying with applicable laws, regulations, legal processes or enforceable governmental requests.

We will also use your information to protect the rights and property of Veson, our users, applicants, candidates, employees or the public as required or permitted by law.

Who may have access to your information

  • Your information may be shared with our affiliates, subsidiaries or joint ventures in the US and in other jurisdictions, in relation to the purposes described above.
  • Veson may also use service providers acting on Veson’s behalf to perform some of the services described above including for the purposes of the verification / background checks. These service providers may be located outside the country in which you live or the country where the position you have applied for is located.
  • Veson may sometimes be required to disclose your information to external third parties such as to local labor authorities, courts and tribunals, regulatory bodies and/or law enforcement agencies for the purpose of complying with applicable laws and regulations, or in response to legal process.
  • We will also share your personal information with other third parties if we have your consent (for example if you have given us permission to contact your references), or to detect, prevent or otherwise address fraud, security or technical issues, or to protect against harm to the rights, property or safety of Veson, or as otherwise required by law.
  • It is your responsibility to obtain consent from references before providing their personal information to Veson.
  • Veson operates globally, which means your information may be stored and processed outside of the country or region where it was originally collected, including in the United States. In some of these countries, your rights related to personal information may differ from the laws of your country of residence. Veson remains responsible for any of your personal information that is shared under the Onward Transfer Principle with third parties for external processing on our behalf, as described above..

Veson takes appropriate steps to protect information about you that is collected, processed, and stored as part of the application and recruitment process.

Our retention of your information

If you are offered and accept employment with Veson, the information collected during the application and recruitment process will continue to be maintained as part of your employment record.

If you apply for a job at Veson, but do not receive or you reject an offer of employment, Veson will retain your information in our talent pool as described above .

Your personal information rights

In certain countries, you may have certain rights under applicable data protection law. This may include the right to request access or to update or review your information, request that it be deleted or anonymized, or object to or restrict Veson using it for certain purposes.

If you wish to exercise a right of access or deletion please contact security@veson.com. We will respond to any requests in accordance with applicable law, and so there may be circumstances where we are not able to comply with your request. In addition, we may keep some of your personal information in order to comply with legal requirements or to defend legal claims.

Changes to this Policy

We may change this policy from time to time. We will post any changes to this policy on this page. Each version of this policy is identified by its effective date.
