Building a Connected Commercial Foundation with IMOS

Reduce manual data entry and eliminate disconnected workflows in a growing fleet operating under increasing regulatory and reporting demands.

Transition from an in-house system to IMOS, creating a connected commercial foundation with real-time visibility, seamless ERP integration, and embedded regulatory tracking.

Reduced manual reconciliation, faster reporting, improved voyage optimization, and a scalable operating model built to support continued fleet growth.

SC Shipping: Building a Connected Commercial Foundation with IMOS

Over the past three decades, SC Shipping has grown from a regional operator into one of the world’s leading chemical carrier companies. With a fleet of more than 50 vessels today — and plans to grow beyond 70 in the next two years — the company continues to expand its global footprint while maintaining a strong focus on operational excellence.

As Global Head of OperationsShiyi (Shane) Duan oversees the systems and processes that keep that fleet moving efficiently. As the business scaled, it became clear that the tools supporting commercial operations needed to scale with it.

In this interview, Shane shares why SC Shipping chose to move from its long-standing in-house system to IMOS — and how that decision is reshaping day-to-day workflows while laying the groundwork for future growth.

Scaling a growing fleet without scaling manual work

“With our previous in-house system, one of the biggest challenges for us was the substantial manual data entry work, including vessel movement tracking and internal reporting requirements,” Shane explains.

As the fleet expanded, so did the administrative workload. Teams were spending valuable time maintaining data and reconciling information — just as evolving regulations like CII and EU ETS were raising expectations around transparency and reporting.

Alleviating burden from voyage optimization

Transitioning to IMOS marked a shift from strenuous manual efforts to greater operational clarity, as Shane describes: “With IMOS, most of this burden was lifted and we can focus on optimizing our voyages instead of keying work.”

IMOS gives SC Shipping real-time visibility into freight exposure and performance, while helping support requirements from fast-evolving regulations. With centralized voyage management and embedded regulatory tracking, teams can now operate with clearer oversight and greater confidence.

Breaking down silos with seamless integration

Integration played a decisive role in SC Shipping’s move to IMOS.

“What stood out about IMOS was how easily it interfaces with other systems,” Shane explains.

Data flows seamlessly between IMOS, ERP systems, reporting tools, and more — saving significant time previously spent on manual reconciliation. Instead of working in silos, SC Shipping’s teams now operate within what Shane describes as “one connected wheel.”

That connectivity supports faster decisions and more accurate voyage planning across departments.

Making the transition stick

Moving from an in-house system to IMOS was a significant operational shift. For SC Shipping, making that shift successful meant pairing external guidance with strong internal ownership.

Shane credits Veson’s Professional Services team for their support throughout the implementation.

“I have to say thank you to our Veson Professional Service team’s support,” he says.

That partnership helped ensure the system aligned with SC Shipping’s workflows from the start. But just as important was building momentum internally

“One key lesson was the importance of having our super users to drive adoption.”

By empowering experienced team members to champion the system, SC Shipping embedded IMOS into daily operations quickly and confidently. Teams began to feel the difference almost immediately — reduced manual reconciliationfaster reporting, and more accuratevoyage planning

Laying the groundwork for what comes next

For Shane, the transition to IMOS has been about more than solving today’s operational challenges. It is also about preparing for the next phase of shipping’s evolution.

“Shipping is a very old and traditional industry, but this also means that there is tremendous potential for improvement.”

Shane Duan, Global Head of Operations, SC Shipping

Technologies like AIIoT, and data warehousing have the potential to revolutionize operational efficiency and create immense value. With IMOS as its connected commercial core, SC Shipping is building the flexibility to adapt as new technologies emerge.
